As our pets get older, it is important for them to see their Veterinarian regularly. We can detect any changes and help them live a long and healthy life.
When is a dog considered a senior pet?
The age to determine if your pet is a senior is dependent on size and breed life expectancy. Most smaller breed dogs are considered senior at age 7-8 while some giant breeds could be considered senior at 5-6 years of age.
How should I care for my senior dog? (example: schedule regular check-ups, exercise, special diet, etc.)
Senior pets should continue to see their veterinarian at least once a year and sometimes every 6 months. Many of our seniors benefit from a general health screen that checks how their organs are functioning. They also benefit from different food that is formulated for their changing dietary requirements. On your next visit ask us if we can provide any recommendations for diet.
